Children

Two extra beds are available in Sycamore and one in Pine for £15 for a child under 12 or £20 for teenagers and adults. A cot is also available. 

The hotel grounds are just waiting to be explored but there are a few potential hazards. Behind the 3 foot high wall which leads from the car park to the hotel there is a 12 foot drop down onto the lawns below. Parents must not allow their children to walk on or climb the wall.

Inside the hotel there are boxed games in the library and a selection of DVDs and a large TV in the television room.

Dogs

We welcome well-behaved, quiet dogs by prior arrangement. There is an extra charge of £8 per dog per stay. Dogs must not be allowed on to chairs or beds, so please bring your own clean bedding for them. We do require that dogs are never left unattended in the bedrooms. We don’t allow dogs in the main breakfast/dining room so they should be put in the car during mealtimes. Alternatively we would be happy to set up a table for you in the bar or the large lounge where your dog is welcome to sit with you.

There are wonderful walks from the doorstep along the South West Coast Path or down to the beach at Heddon’s Mouth. We have two energetic German short-haired pointers and know all the local walks.

Exmoor is very dog-friendly and most of the local pubs including The Hunters Inn welcome dogs. 

The only down side for dogs are the deer ticks which are very common particularly in the summer months. We recommend that you treat your dog with Prac-tic (or other) before you arrive and check your dog for ticks after each walk. We can lend you a tick remover.

Disabled access    

We are keen to assist guests who have any kind of disability but Heddon’s Gate may not be suitable if you have difficulty with stairs as all the bedrooms are on the first floor. Please feel free to discuss your requirements with us before booking.

Smoking    

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the hotel.  Smoking is allowed anywhere outside.

Meals

Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m.  Room service is available but should be requested the night before so that a suitable table and chairs can be put in your room.

We do not serve lunch but packed lunches are available. Please order before bedtime.

Dinner is served at 7.00 p.m.

Please let us know at the time of booking if there is anything you cannot eat.  

Telephones 

Please note that there is no mobile phone reception at the hotel or anywhere in the Heddon Valley. We have a free phone at reception for calls in the UK.

Wireless Internet

We have wi-fi available free of charge. Because we are some distance from the telephone exchange our Broadband speed is on the low side. Please do not expect to be able to watch full-screen movies on your laptop (but “You-Tube” sized ones are fine). Our wi-fi currently only covers reception and the bar. It is provided on an “as is” basis and is subject to acceptable use by our guests (i.e. no excessive downloads or uploads, and no material that could render us liable to criminal or civil prosecution)

Deposit & Cancellation

We reserve the right to charge a deposit of £50 per room at busy times. If you cancel your booking more than 7 days before arrival we will refund any deposit already paid (but any bank charges incurred will be deducted from your refund).

A confirmed booking is a binding contract on you and us, so we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance.

Payment  

Accounts must be paid in full on departure. We accept cash and most debit and credit cards. However there is a 2% charge for using credit cards.

Arrivals and departures

Rooms are available from 3 p.m. on your arrival day. They should be vacated by 11 a.m. on your departure day. Should you wish, we can normally arrange to look after your luggage outside these times.
